Robin sang sweetly
When the days were bright:
‘Thanks, thanks for summer,’
He sang with all his might
Robin sang sweetly,
In the autumun days,
‘There are fruits for everyone;
Let all give praise’
In the cold and wintry weather,
Still hear his song:
Somebody must sing,’ said Robin
‘Or winter will seem long.’
When the spring came again,
He said , I told you so!
Keep on singing through the winter
It will always go.’

Betty at the party

‘When I was at the party,

Said Betty, aged just four,

‘ A little girl fell off her chair

Right down upon the floor

And all the other little girls,

Began to laugh, but me –

I didn’t laugh a single bit,

Said Betty seriously.

‘Why not? Her mother asked her,

Full of delight to find,

That Betty blesses her little heart!

Had been so sweetly kind.

‘Why didn’t you laugh, my darling?

Or don’t you like to tell?

‘I didn’t laugh, ‘said Betty,

‘Because it was I that fell’.

The Boy on the Bicycle

The boy on the bicycle begins to sing,
And the bell on his bike goes ring-a-ding-ding!
He whizzes straight past, like an arrow in flight,
His legs working hard, he leans left and then right.
He sings, ‘Excuse me ladies, gentleman too,
You’re stuck in the traffic but I’m coming through.’
He passes us cycling so fast and so free,
The boy on the bicycle; I wish that were me!

ਖੂਨ!
ਬੇਹਾ ਖ਼ੂਨ !
ਮੈਂ ਹਾਂ ਬੋਹਾ ਖ਼ੂਨ
ਨਿੱਕੀ ਉਮਰੇ ਭੋਗ ਲਈ
ਅਸਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਚੁੰਮਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਜੂਨ
ਪਹਿਲਾ ਚੁੰਮਣ ਬਾਲ-ਵਰੇਸੇ
ਟੁਰ ਸਾਡੇ ਦਰ ਆਇਆ।
ਉਹ ਚੁੰਮਣ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਦੀ ਬਾਜ਼ੀ
ਦੋ ਬੋਲ ਖੇਡ ਗਵਾਇਆ !
ਦੂਜਾ ਚੁੰਮਣ ਜੋ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਜੁੜਿਆ
ਉਹ ਸਾਡੇ ਮੈਚ ਨਾ ਆਇਆ।
ਉਸ ਮਗਰੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਚੁੰਮਣ ਜੁੜਿਆ
ਪਰ ਹੋਣੀ ਨਾ ਲਾਇਆ।
ਮੁੜ ਨਾ ਪਾਪ ਕਮਾਇਆ ॥
ਪਰ ਇਹ ਕੇਹਾ ਅੱਜ ਦਾ ਚੁੰਮਣ
ਗੱਲ ਸਾਡੇ ਲੱਗ ਹੋਇਆ ?
ਹੋਠਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਹਿਲੀਜ਼ ਸਿਉਂਕੀ
ਤੇ ਚਾਨਣ ਜਿਸ ਹੋਇਆ।
ਇਹ ਚੁੰਮਣ ਸਾਡਾ ਸੱਜਣ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ
ਇਹ ਚੁੰਮਣ ਸਾਡਾ ਮਹਿਰਮ ਹੋਇਆ
ਡੂੰਘੀ ਢਾਬ ਹਿਜਰ ਦੀ ਸਾਡੀ
ਡੁੱਬ ਮੋਇਆ, ਡੁੱਬ ਮੋਇਆ |
ਸਾਡਾ ਤਨ-ਮਨ ਹਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ।
ਪਰ ਇਹ ਕਿਹਾ ਕੁ ਦਿਲ-ਪਰਚਾਵਾ
ਪਰ ਇਹ ਕਿਹਾ ਸਕੂਨ ?
ਮੈਂ ਹਾਂ, ਬੇਹਾ ਖ਼ੂਨ।
ਖ਼ੂਨ!
ਬੇਹਾ ਖ਼ੂਨ।
ਬਾਸ਼ੋ ਨੂੰ ਇਕ ਤਿਤਲੀ ਕਹਿਣਾ
ਇਹ ਹੈ ਨਿਰਾ ਜਨੂਨ!
ਬਾਲ ਵਰਸ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਰਿਆ
ਉਸ ਚੁੰਮਣ ਦੀ ਉਣ
ਮਰ ਮੁੱਕ ਕੇ ਵੀ ਕਰ ਨਾ ਸਕਦਾ
ਪੂਰੀ ਬੇਹਾ ਖ਼ੂਨ।
ਭਾਵੇਂ ਇਹ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡ ਵੀ ਫੋਲੇ
ਜਾਂ ਅਰੂਨ ਵਰੂਨ |
ਇਹ ਵੀ ਇਕ ਜਨੂਨ |
ਮੈਂ ਹਾਲੇ ਤਾਜ਼ੇ ਦਾ ਤਾਜ਼ਾ
ਸਮਝੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਖ਼ਾਨ।
ਨਿੱਕੀ ਉਮਰੇ ਭੋਗ ਲਈ
ਜਿਸ ਸੈ ਚੁੰਮਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਜੂਨ
ਖੂਨ
ਬੇਹਾ ਖ਼ੂਨ !
ਮੈਂ ਹਾਂ ਬੇਹਾ ਖ਼ੂਨ !!

Great, wide, wonderful world,
With the wonderful water round you curled,
And the wonderful grass upon your breast,
World, you are beautifully drest.

The wonderful air is over me,
And the wonderful wind is shaking the tree,
It walks on the water, and Whirls the mills,
And talks to itself on the tops of the hills.

You friendly Earth! How far do you go,
With the wheat-fields that nod and the river that flow,
With cities and gardens, and cliffs and isles,
And people upon you far thousands of miles?

Ah, You are so great and I am so small,
I tremble to think of you, world, at all,
And Yet, when I said my prayers today, A whisper inside me seemed to say,

‘You are more than the Earth,
Though you are Such a dot;
You can love and think,
And the Earth Cannot!’
